Girls Who Code instructor Pradnya Wakachaure and Mrs. Silverman, the club's faculty adviser and chair of engineering and computer science, accompanied them. Two Bergenfield Students Win VFW Essay Contest BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- Two sixth-graders from Roy W. Brown Middle School recently took first and third place in Bergenfield VFW Memorial Post 6467's annual Patriot's Pen essay contest. Franz Gloria won first prize, and Sarthak Gandotra came in third. "Both students wrote beautiful essays on what freedom means to them," the school district said in a Monday Facebook post. The VFW-sponsored Patriot's Pen contest is conducted nationwide, and over 131,000 sixth- through eighth-graders submit essays each year. Local winners can then compete at the state and national levels.

$1M School Parking Lot Renovation In Hillsdale To Start Next Month HILLSDALE, N.J. -- A million-plus parking-lot project at Pascack Valley High School is set to begin in June, The Record is reporting. The project includes getting rid of the older tennis courts, widening part of the road that leads to the athletic fields and adding 37 parking spots, including five disabled spots, according to The Record. Superintendent Erik Gundersen noted that the project was mostly about alleviating safety concerns. The work is expected to be done before the school begins in the fall.
