Rochelle Park Student Wins Speech Competition PARAMUS, N.J. – Bergen Community College student Maycie Schmidt, of Rochelle Park, won the president's award for best speaker at the school's ninth annual speech competition. Schmidt presented "Fair Trade," which examined how consumers can make a difference in the developing world by purchasing sustainably grown and acquired goods. She competing against 49 other students for $3,000 in scholarships in the competition sponsored by the Bergen Community College Foundation. Garfield Students Wear Superhero T-Shirts, Raise Money For Autism GARFIELD, N.J. -- Last week the Manga Anime Comic Club and Helping Hands Club did a fundraiser at Garfield High School to benefit an autism walk -- using superhero t-shirts. April 28 was National Superhero Day Students, and students paid $2 to wear a superhero shirt to school, instead of their purple polo. The fundraiser raised $280, and the proceeds were donated to a teacher's Autism Walk team. That teacher's son has autism.
