Bergenfield High School Named Among 'Most Challenging' In U.S. BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- For the fifth year in a row, Bergenfield High School has made the Washington Post's prestigious list of "America's Most Challenging High Schools." This year's ranking places BHS at 1098 in the nation, landing the school in the top 5 percent in the nation and top 4 percent of high schools, both public and private, in New Jersey. BHS continues to steadily move up in rank: it rose from number 1624 in 2012 to its current rank of 1098, including moving up 224 places in the last year. Ridgewood Middle School Honors Veterans During Spirit Week RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- Ridgewood's Benjamin Franklin Middle School observed its 11th annual Spirit Week from April 4-8, and honoring the military was a feature. Students and staff participated in Wii Care Wednesday. Students wore camouflage and homemade dog tags, bearing names of current or past soldiers. Also, each homeroom made a care package for soldiers currently serving abroad: 33 care packages will be sent to soldiers from local families. Bob Paoli, from Ridgewood American Legion Post 53, will deliver some of the care packages.

Heller Memorial Concert RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The Rutherford Community Band is holding a memorial concert for its longtime director on Friday, May 13.Raymond L. Heller was the director of the band for 53 years. He died last September, at 86. The memorial concert has been in the works for the last several months. After earning degrees in music education, Heller became a music teacher in the Rutherford school system.
