Helen (Petrochi) Ahern, 90, Garfield Resident GARFIELD, N.J. -- Helen (Petrochi) Ahern -- a Garfield resident, formerly of Wood-Ridge -- died on Tuesday, April 26. She was 90. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Geleski and her husband Steve of Garfield. She was sister to the late Joseph, Andrew, Steve Petrochi, John Komar, Michael Petrowsky, Anna Veliky and Mary Moskaz. She was predeceased by her husband William, and her parents, Joseph and Anna. Wayne School Board Approves Tuition-Based Full-Day Kindergarten WAYNE, N.J. -- Full-day kindergarten will be an option for the upcoming school year, though for now it'll just be fee-based, The Record reported. The Wayne Township Board of Education voted on it on Thursday, April 21. Changing it to a permanent program, funded by taxpayers, will be in a referendum this November, according to The Record. Musical Pasta Dinner Fundraiser Comes To Waldwick WALDWICK, N.J. -- The Waldwick Music Parents Association is hosting a pasta dinner on Friday, April 29. The menu is pasta with meatballs, pasta with a variety of homemade pasta sauces, salad, bread and homemade desserts. The Waldwick High School jazz band and other student musical groups will perform. Both Mayor James Cassella and Library Director Christine Hartigan were on hand to meet and congratulate her. Mayor Cassella judged the contest for the library and chose Saanvi's poster, out of the 21submitted to the library. Northern Valley Winter Guard Took Third At Championship NORTHERN VALLEY, N.J. -- The Northern Valley Winter Guard placed well in the USBands Championships on Sunday, April 24, at Lehigh University, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.The team placed third in its division, with its 88.95 score. The pre-registration dates are Wednesday, April 27, Monday, May 9, Monday, May 23, Monday, June 6, Monday, June 13, and Tuesday, June 21. Each session will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m., in the Borough Hall lobby, 445 Lafayette Ave. There are two Summer Rec sessions, for first- through eighth-grade Hawthorne kids: June 21 through July 8, and July 11-29.
