Saddle River Students Read For 544 Hours To Aid Animal Rescue SADDLE RIVER, N.J. -- Saddle River Day School recently held a read-a-thon to benefit FOWA Rescue, based on the idea of third-grader Brooke Braen, of Wyckoff, and her peers. Together they then challenged the second- and fourth-graders, and the students read for a total 32,645 minutes -- 544 hours. The students raised $3,264.50 to donate to the rescue group. The money raised will help aid in the welfare, sheltering and placement of homeless animals. "We hope that this website provides enough information and updates for our programs," organizers note. James and Monica Maniscalco began the special-needs sports program in 2012, to provide opportunities for kids like their daughter, who's now 11. She has a rare chromosome abnormality. The Angels program began with soccer, and lacrosse and cheer were added this spring.
