Ridgewood Art Show Features Young Artists RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- The Ridgewood Art Institute is having its 57th Annual Young People's Scholarship Exhibition on June 5-17. This show features artwork from both aspiring artists of the Institute and non-member children from the region. The reception is on Sunday, June 5, from 2-4 p.m., and the awards ceremony is at 3 p.m. The Art Institute is located at 12 East Glen Ave., in Ridgewood. Saddle Brook Carnival Arrives In July SADDLE BROOK, N.J. -- St. Philip's 57th Annual Festival of Fun will be from July 13-17.The festival will feature food, rides, game booths -- and the Holy Spirits Smoothie Station, where you'll find "heavenly smoothies and tasty ice cream floats," organizers note. Proceeds from that particular refreshment will support St. Philip's Youth Ministry. On the Facebook event page, over 200 people have already indicated that they're going, and nearly 500 more have noted an interest in going. St. Philip's is located at 488 Saddle River Rd., in Saddle Brook.

Carlstadt Dance Studio Students Honored By Elected Officials CARLSTADT, N.J. -- Allegro Arts Academy, of Carlstadt, was recently honored by state representatives for its accomplishments over this past resolution. Assemblyman Gary Schaer and Assemblywoman Marlene Caride, who represent the 36th District, visited the studio on Tuesday to present a ceremonial resolution.  Among the studio's accomplishments, it received the 2016 Studio of Excellence Award at March's Sophisticated Productions Dance Convention, and had the highest score in the competition. Bloomingdale Officials Want A Bully-Free Town BLOOMINGDALE, N.J. -- At the Tuesday evening Bloomingdale Council Meeting, officials took steps to make the borough a bully-free town.Both the mayor and council members -- and folks in the audience -- took an anti-bully pledge: I promise to do my part from this day forward as a member of the Anti Bully Squad. If I see someone getting bullied, I will step in and speak out. Bullying needs to stop now and I am willing to do my part to make that happen. The borough noted in a Wednesday Facebook post that it became the country's first Anti Bully Squad bully-free town.

Garfield Emergency Services Unit Completes Hazmat Training In Brooklyn GARFIELD, N.J. -- Garfield Police Emergency Services Unit officers recently spent a week in Brooklyn, doing hazardous materials training. The officers trained with an NYPD Emergency Services Unit at Floyd Bennett Field, in Brooklyn. The Garfield PBA also donated five of its recent fundraiser t-shirts to the men shown, who were 9/11 first responders.
